On this show, we talk to three newly-minted Ironmen (Blaik Ogle, Derek Tingle and Chris Burl) about their experience training and racing Ironman Lake Placid 2016.
We’ll get the age-grouper perspective on peculiarities of tackling the long course for the first time, bits of wisdom they picked up along the way, and memories of that long summer day in upstate New York.
We cover the decision to race the full distance, why they picked Lake Placid, training plans, preparation, and how to win at the mental game during training and on the day of the race. Also uncovered is a somewhat unrelated incident of dubious legality that happened during their stay in Lake Placid. (We’ll post the GoFundMe link for Lana’s bail shortly 😉 )
Also check out our short chat with Ashley Powell (Provision Racing) after her great finishes at the USAT National Championships in Omaha, NE, in both the Sprint and Olympic distances. With those results, she qualifies for the World Championships in 2017 in Rotterdam in both distances.
Plus, we recap the Men’s and Women’s Triathlon from the 2016 Olympics in Rio, including the big stories of the Brownlee brothers dominance as Alistair Brownlee defended his 2012 gold and Gwen Jorgensen’s long-awaited Olympic coronation in the women’s race.
